Minorities

What are the minorities?
Are recognized to include national, ethnic, cultural, linguistic,
and religious minorities, as well as some migrants, refugees,
and indigenous and tribal peoples. It is also important to consider
that minorities are likely to be discriminated against or marginalized,
and they may develop increased group loyalty as a result of discriminatory
and marginalized relations with the state.

Problems that they go through
Minorities constitute the most marginalized segments of society
and are increasingly suffering from intolerance and abuses of their
human rights, warned yesterday the UN special rapporteur specializing
in the fundamental guarantees of these groups.
Fernand de Varennes said in a communiqué that there is currently a growing
intolerance and hate speeches proliferate in various parts of the world.

“The tensions caused by the continuous marginalization of minorities create
environments that can turn violent. Respect for the rights of minorities, as well
as their political and social inclusion is key to maintaining stability, ”said the expert.

The special rapporteur noted that many minorities live in precarious conditions, some
without legal status even in their countries of origin.

He also stressed the importance of preventing conflict through the inclusion and
education of minorities. In addition, de Varennes stressed the importance of
preventing conflicts by including minorities in national education systems and
educating the rest of societies about the identities and languages of minorities.

De Varennes asked to pay special attention to children and women of minority
communities, considering that they are “the most vulnerable among the vulnerable”.
